CYDES 2023 Closes on a High Note, Marking a Milestone in Fostering Global Cyber Security Collaboration & Resilience.

Today, we celebrated the remarkable achievements of CYDES 2023 in advancing the global cyber security industry during a grand closing ceremony. The ceremony was graced by the presence of YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan bin Zainal Abidin, the Director General for National Security at the National Security Council, representing Tan Sri Mohd Zuki bin Ali, Chief Secretary to the Government. It was a momentous occasion attended by esteemed VIP guests, including government officials and representatives from various embassies.

 

The ceremony started with the presentation of a video which showcased key highlights of CYDES 2023 and captured the essence of the event.

 

YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan, representing Tan Sri Mohd Zuki, took the stage and delivered a compelling closing speech, underscoring the remarkable achievements of CYDES 2023. He emphasized the critical agreements reached during the event and highlighted the paramount importance of protecting critical infrastructures, securing sensitive data, and fortifying our defenses against ever-evolving cyber threats.

 

He also emphasized the crucial role of collaboration among stakeholders in developing a robust cybersecurity strategy. YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan highlighted that CYDES 2023 exemplified an exemplary public-private partnership, bringing together government agencies, MKN and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), along with the event's private sector partner, Alpine Integrated Solution.

 

Furthermore, he expressed his immense pride in CYDES' growing global reputation as a premier platform for advancing cybersecurity. With the participation of over 200 organizations from 15 countries, CYDES has solidified its position as a hub for knowledge exchange and collaboration in the cybersecurity industry.

 

The four main events of CYDES, namely The Malaysia Cybersecurity Ecosystem Symposium, The 2nd ASEAN Cyber Security Forum, The Malaysia Cyber Security Strategy Forum, and The ICT Security Officers Convention, have provided ample opportunities to explore critical cybersecurity issues, foster constructive discussions, and lay the groundwork for effective policy frameworks and solutions.

 

Moreover, YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan emphasized the significance of key dialogues conducted during CYDES 2023, such as the Malaysia-Japan Cyber Policy Dialogue and the Malaysia-Singapore High-Level Cybersecurity Roundtable. These dialogues have not only strengthened diplomatic ties but also facilitated regional collaboration on cybersecurity, enhancing collective efforts in addressing cyber threats and challenges.

 

YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan also commended CYDES 2023’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity, saying “By providing tailored programs for women and youth, we are breaking down barriers and promoting diversity in this critical sector. We believe that by harnessing the talents and perspectives of individuals from all backgrounds, we can unlock innovation, foster creativity, and develop comprehensive solutions to the complex cybersecurity challenges we face.”

 

After the speech, YM Raja Dato’ Nushirwan was joined by Rizman Harith Merican, CEO of Velum Labs, the sponsor of the CYDES Cyber Warzone: Capture-the-Flag Challenge, to present the prizes to the winners.

 

10 teams from local universities competed fiercely during this event. Team Bujang received the competition's special prize of RM3,000 for solving the most difficult challenge. The third placer prize of RM6,000 went to Team Excelsior with a score of 2,748 points while the second place prize of RM8,000 went to Team Bujang with a score of 4,204 points. Coming out in first place and winning the grand prize of RM10,000 was Team Cincai with a score of 4,700 points. 

 

CYDES 2023 marked a significant milestone in the global cybersecurity landscape, bringing together diverse stakeholders to showcase innovative solutions, engage in meaningful discussions, and contribute to the advancement of the industry. The event's success reaffirmed the importance of collaboration, collective action, and inclusivity in building a secure digital future
